- Knowing the Self means being the Self.
- The ignorance is identical with the `I'-thought. Find its source
and it will vanish.
- All other knowledge are only petty and trivial knowledge; the
experience of silence alone is the real and perfect knowledge.
- The state of being is permanent and the body and the world are
not. They are fleeting phenomena passing on the screen of
being-consciousness which is eternal and stationary.
- You identify yourself with the body you think that the Guru is
also a body. You are not the body, nor is the Guru. You are the Self
and so is the Guru. This knowledge is gained by what you call
Self-realization.
- Remove the Ego and Avidya (Ignorance) is gone. Look for it, the
ego vanishes and the real Self alone remains.
- The Self alone exists. When you try to trace the ego, which is
the basis of the perception of the world and everything else, you
find the ego does not exist at all and neither does all this
creation that you see.
- A doubt arises and is cleared. Another arises and that is
cleared, making way for yet another; and so it goes on. So there is
no possibility of clearing away all doubts. See to whom the doubts
arise. Go to their source and abide in it. Then they cease to arise.
That is how doubts are to be cleared.
- You withdraw your mind completely from the world and turn it
within and abide there, that is, if you keep awake always to the
Self which is the substratum of all experiences, you will find the
world of which you are now aware is just as unreal as the world in
which you lived in your dream.
- Is it the mind that wants to kill itself ? The mind cannot kill
itself. So your business is to find the real nature of the mind.
Then you will know that there is no mind. When the Self is sought,
the mind is nowhere. Abiding in the Self, one need not worry about
the mind.
- Small desires such as the desire to eat, drink, sleep and attend
to calls of nature, though these may also be classed among desires,
you can safely satisfy. They will not implant vasanas in your mind,
necessitating further birth. Those activities are just necessary to
carry on life and are not likely to develop or leave behind vasanas
or tendencies. As a general rule, therefore, there is no harm in
satisfying a desire where the satisfaction will not lead to further
desires by creating vasanas in the mind.
- The mind, having been so long a cow accustomed to graze
stealthily on others' estates, is not easily confined to her stall.
However much her keeper tempts her with luscious grass and fine
fodder, she refuses the first time. Then she takes a bit, but her
innate tendency to stray away asserts itself and she slips away. On
being repeatedly tempted by the owner, she accustoms herself to the
stall until finally, even if let loose, she does not stray away.
Similarly with the mind. If once it finds its inner happiness it
will not wander outward.
